The “Skampa” Theatre is located in the heart of Elbasan, one of Albania’s oldest and most historic cities, surrounded by the legacy of the Ottoman fortress, traditional neighborhoods, and narrow streets leading to the main square. Its central urban position makes it both easily accessible and a key cultural landmark in the city’s social life.
Founded on July 16, 1962, the theatre gradually evolved into one of the country’s most important performing arts institutions. In its early years, the professional acting troupe was formed from local enthusiasts and amateur groups, bringing a renewed theatrical spirit to Elbasan and beyond.
For decades, “Skampa” has hosted dramatic premieres, comedies, tragedies, and a wide range of stage performances. The theatre has presented both classical and contemporary works, playing a significant role in shaping the artistic and cultural development of audiences and producing many distinguished figures of the Albanian stage.
